Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Blanks Lafayette, 1-0

Bennett Leitner scores game’s lone goal for Rams

Bronx, N.Y. – Though the Fordham men's soccer team wasn't wearing ruby slippers tonight and didn't have a feisty Cairn Terrier with them, the Rams found out that there's no place like home. Playing their first home match of 2025 a Bennett Leitner tally in the 80th minute sent the home crowd home happy as the Rams shutout Lafayette College, 1-0, at Moglia Stadium.

With the win, Fordham improves to 2-1-1 on the season while Lafayette falls to 1-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Leitner scored the game's lone goal at the 79:37 mark, taking a through ball from Daniel D'Ippolito and beat Lafayette keeper Eric Axtman to the far post from eight yards out.

GAME NOTES
• The goal was Leitner's second of the year and the fifth of his career.

• D'Ippolito's assists was his second of the season and he has at least one point in three of the first four games of the year for the Rams.

• Fordham starting keeper Tristan Stephani, making his first start of the year, was familiar with tonight's opponent. A transfer from Holy Cross, he had seen tonight's opponent in each of the past four seasons in Patriot League play.

• The clean sheet was Stephani's seventh career shutout.

WHAT'S NEXT?
• The Rams host Marist College on Friday night, September 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Moglia Stadium.

• It will be the 29th meeting between the Rams and the Red Foxes with Fordham leading the all-time series, 17-8-3.

• Marist took last year's meeting, 2-1, in Poughkeepsie.
