Bronx, N.Y. – (August 15, 2025) – The goals came early and often on Friday for the Fordham Rams in their season opener, posting a 4-0 win over the Marist Red Foxes at Moglia Stadium. It was the second most goals for the Rams in a season opener behind only a 13-goal outburst against Saint Peter's in 2001.
Fordham scored right off the bat in the third minute, as Lena Johnsen laid off a pass to Renata Mercedes, who scored on a blast from 29 yards out for her first collegiate goal. Just over two minutes later, the Rams made it 2-0. Johnsen once again set up the goal, sliding a cross at the endline off the near post to Ava Giudice in front of the net, knocking in her first collegiate goal.
The scoring continued in the second half in the 50th minute, where Johnsen set up her third goal of the night on a corner kick that was headed home by Liina Tervo. For Johnsen, it tied a school record with three assists in a game with Casey Finnegan (2001 vs. Saint Peter's). Mercedes capped the game with her second goal of the game, just 45 seconds after Tervo's goal, connecting on a low roller from the top of the box.
Addison Green kept the clean sheet for the Rams in goal, making seven saves in the game, the best of which came on a fingertip stop on Marist's Gabby Tirado in the second half, which deflected the ball just enough to hit the crossbar, instead of finding the net.
The Rams now make their first ever road trip to Colorado for two matches next week. Fordham will next play at Colorado on August 21st at 9:00 PM EST, followed by a match at Northern Colorado on August 23rd.
