Men’s Basketball Adds Zarique Nutter

Newark native comes to Fordham after stints at Georgia State, Northern Illinois

BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham Men's Basketball Head Coach Mike Magpayo has announced the addition of New Jersey native Zarique Nutter to the roster for the 2025-26 campaign.

Nutter, a 6-foot-7 forward, played last year at Georgia State after spending his first two Division I seasons at Northern Illinois.

"Zarique Nutter is another graduate transfer who brings veteran leadership and an elite toughness to the Fordham Basketball program," said Magpayo.  "A local young man from Newark, Zarique is a unicorn being able to dribble and make plays from all areas of the court with his 6'7 frame and size. Zarique's physicality and ability to draw fouls is a perfect compliment to our current roster of shooters."

Nutter appeared in 29 games, 13 of which were starts, during his lone season at Georgia State in 2024-25.  He averaged 14.2 points per game, good enough for second on the team, while shooting 49.5% from the floor and 33% from beyond the arc on just under one attempt per outing.  His 49.5% showing from the floor ranked fifth in the Sun Belt among qualifying players.

In 2024-25, Nutter reached double figures 23 times with six 20-point performances, including a season-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting in a win over Coastal Carolina on Jan. 11.  Nutter finished the campaign on a high note, averaging 19.5 points on 16-of-26 (61.5%) shooting in the Panthers' two Sun Belt Tournament games.  Nutter also poured in 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting in a game at Kentucky on Nov. 29.

Already a 1,000-point scorer for his Division I career, Nutter also averaged 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest, the latter of which ranked second on the team.

Before transferring to Georgia State, Nutter started 53 games at Northern Illinois, averaging 13.7 points on 44.8% shooting over his two seasons.  In 2023-24, Nutter ranked second on the team and top 10 in the conference with 15.4 points per outing while pulling down a career-best 5.7 rebounds per game.  During his debut season at the Division I level in 2022-23, averaged 12.5 points and 4.8 boards per outing.

Nutter arrived at Northern Illinois after spending two seasons at Clarendon College, where he averaged 19.9 points and 8.6 rebounds as a sophomore after being named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020-21.  The Newark native averaged 15.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game that season.

Nutter played scholastically at The Patrick School in Union, N.J., leading the Celtics in scoring with 11.7 points per game as a senior in 2019-20.
