Bronx, N.Y. – (May 10, 2025) – Fordham's
Cian Sahler and
Matt Dieguez each drove in two runs to lead the Rams to a 6-4 win over the Dayton Flyers on Senior Day at Houlihan Park on Saturday afternoon.
The win coupled with other results around the league moved Fordham into sole possession of sixth place in the Atlantic 10 at 13-13 in league play, while Dayton, George Washington, and Richmond are all tied for seventh at 12-14.
Dayton opened the contest with a 1-0 lead in the second, courtesy of a solo home run by Mason Dobie, his seventh of the season.
Fordham answered with a three-run third inning for a 3-1 advantage. With one out,
Cian Sahler and
Daniel Bucciero reached base on back-to-back singles with Sahler scoring on an RBI-single by
Andrew Kanellis. After Bucciero scored on a ground out by
Anthony Grabau,
Matt Dieguez looped a double into right field where the outfielder couldn't find the ball in the sun, allowing Kanellis to score.
The Flyers closed the gap to 3-2 in the fourth, as Ryan MacDougall connected on a solo home run to right center, his sixth of the year.
The score remained that way until the eighth, when Fordham cashed in for three runs, extending the lead to 6-2. With two runners in scoring position, Sahler drove a single up the middle to score both
Tommy Markey and
Taylor Kirk. The Rams loaded the bases later in the inning with Dieguez being hit by a pitch to force in another run.
Dayton did not go away in the ninth, as the Flyers rallied to get the go-ahead run on base. MacDougall started the rally with his second solo home run of the afternoon, making it 6-3. Later in the inning, Michael DiMartini had an RBI-single to close the gap to 6-4. The Flyers then had the bases loaded with one out, but Fordham reliever
