BRONX, N.Y. – Trading a pair of runs in the opening frame, Fordham University Softball was outlasted in the latter stages of a midweek battle against LIU, falling 7-2 Wednesday afternoon.
Scoring a run in the top of the first, the Sharks took an early lead, quickly answered in the bottom of the frame by a Sydney Wells solo home run, her third in the last four games, to level things at one.
Fordham captured its first lead of the afternoon in the third, as Kate McGuire singled up the middle to score Mikayla Swan and put her side in front 2-1.
A two-run home run by LIU in the fourth gave the visitors back the lead, before scoring two more in the fifth, and bashing another two run homer in the sixth to pull ahead for a 7-2 victory.
Coming on in relief for the Rams in the circle, Elizabeth Gaisior tossed the final 3.0 innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out five.
After a home game this afternoon, following a five-game road stretch, the Rams now head back out of state with a trip to Ohio Friday-Saturday for a three-game set at Dayton.
