Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's tennis team made its final home match of the season a memorable one, blanking Sacred Heart University, 7-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts to pick up its eighth win of the year. The eight regular season wins are the most for the Rams since 2018-19.
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches.
Will Lokier and
Nicolas Garnier got things going for the Rams with a 6-0 win at third doubles over Sacred Heart's Lucca Lafrance and Paul Goncalves before
Dhananjay Athreya and
Dhillon Virdee-Oakley partnered up to take first doubles from Charlie Levinson and Antonio Hernandez by the same score.
Phillip Uhde and
Filip Horak made it a clean sweep at doubles with a 6-4 win over Connor Liona and Brennan Hart-Nova at the second position.
The Rams then won all six singles matches, five in straight sets. Virdee-Oakley was the first Fordham singles winner, defeating Levinson, 6-0, 6-4, before
Jeremy Victoria upended Percy Meehan at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-3. Lokier clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Goncalves at third singles and Horak knocked off Antonio Hernandez at first singles, 6-0, 7-5, for his second win in as many tries at the first position. Garnier needed a tiebreaker to defeat Vayo Rodriguez at sixth singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-2, before
Ruben Russwurm closed out the match with a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 win over Milan Karajovic at fourth singles.
