Sahler’s Career Day Leads Baseball to Win Over Army

Senior Outfielder Drives In Career-High Seven Runs in 12-2 Win

West Point, N.Y. – (March 8, 2025) – The Fordham baseball team welcomed back senior Cian Sahler to the Rams' lineup after missing the last eight games, as Sahler responded with a career day in game two against the Army Black Knights on Saturday.  Sahler drove in a career-high seven RBI, while tying his career-best with four hits, leading Fordham to a 12-2 win over the Black Knights at Doubleday Field in West Point, N.Y.

After Fordham (4-10) went up 1-0 on an RBI-double by Andrew Kanellis in the second inning, the Rams extended the lead to 3-0 in the third on a two-run single by Cian Sahler.

Army cut into the Fordham lead in the fourth at 3-2, courtesy of a two-run double by Jack Quinlan.

The Rams answered with a three-run sixth to put the lead at 6-2.  With two outs, Jack Brennan connected on a solo home run to left, his first of the season. Taylor Kirk followed with a single and a stolen base, bringing Sahler to the plate.  He brought home Kirk with an RBI-double to right, while later scoring on an RBI-single by Daniel Bucciero.

Fordham continued to pour on the offense with two more runs in the eighth and four in the ninth for a 12-2 final.  In the eighth, Kirk had an RBI-double with Sahler having an RBI-single, while the ninth saw an RBI-double by Tommy Markey and a three-run double by Sahler.

The 12-run output by the offense was plenty for Fordham starter Mike Rabayda, who picked up his first win of the season.  He tossed seven solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.  Beau Elson then closed out the game with two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.

At the plate, Sahler was 4-for-6 with two doubles and a career-high seven RBI, while Kirk went 4-for-6 with three doubles, four runs scored, and an RBI.  Kanellis finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI with Brennan having a home run and scoring three runs.

Fordham wraps up their series with Army on Sunday at Houlihan Park with a noon contest.
