Bronx, N.Y. – (March 7, 2025) – Fordham's
Aidan Dowd tossed a career-best six shutout innings, while
Tommy McAndrews drove in three runs, as the Rams opened a three-game series against the Army West Point Black Knights with a 9-2 win at Houlihan Park on Friday afternoon.
The 100
th meeting between Fordham and Army opened with the Rams scoring in the first inning, as
Daniel Bucciero drew a walk, moved to third on a stolen base and error, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Rams then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a 9-0 lead. After back-to-back singles by
Andrew Kanellis and
Reid Lapekas,
Tommy McAndrews singled to left to score Kanellis, but the left fielder overran the ball, allowing Lapekas to also score. After a sacrifice bunt moved McAndrews to third,
Taylor Kirk connected on an RBI-single to make it, 4-0.
Later in the frame, Fordham loaded the bases and scored three runs on three hit by pitches to
Matt Dieguez, Kanellis, and Lapekas. McAndrews then capped the frame with a two-run single to right field.
Army would break up the shutout with single runs in the seventh and eighth inning for the 9-2 score.
Aidan Dowd (1-2) was superb for the Rams, pitching a career-long six shutout innings, giving up just four hits to go with six strikeouts.
Ameer Hasan earned his first save as a Rams, pitching the final three innings, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts. At the plate, McAndrews was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Kanellis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI
Fordham continues the series with Army on Saturday with a 2:00 PM game at West Point.
