Softball Sweeps St. Bonaventure Sunday

The Rams claimed the win 9-1 in five innings

BRONX, N.Y. – Sweeping a three-game series to open a seven-game homestand, Fordham University Softball defeated St. Bonaventure, 9-1 in five innings Sunday afternoon.

Including the win at St. John's Wednesday, the Rams outscored their opponents 40-5 on the week, winning all four games to improve to .500 for the first time this season at 16-16 overall, and 7-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, and have now won five in a row.

Fordham opened the scoring with five runs in the opening frame, ahead of one more in the second, and three more in the third, taking all three games in the weekend series in five innings. Tossing her second outing in as many days, Holly Beeman struck out five batters Sunday, bringing her to 13 across her starts this week, allowing just one run to improve to 8-3 on the year.

Nicki Sudall and Erin Hoppe tallied a pair of RBIs apiece along with two runs scored, while Mallory McClellan also drove in a pair of runs, and scored once. Driving in the remaining two RBIs were Mikayla Swan and Kate McGuire, while Eva Koratsis and Sydney Wells scored two runs each, and Neleh Nogay came home as the other Fordham run.

Batting around in the first, the first six Rams reached safely, loading the bases ahead of a wild pitch and Hoppe single to make it 2-0. McGuire moved everyone up a base with an RBI single on the next at-bat, followed by the first out of the day, that still allowed a run to score from third to double up the lead, and forced in a run on a Swan walk to pull ahead by five.

McClellan made it 6-0 Fordham in the second on an RBI single to center field, ahead of a three run rally to surge out front in the third. St. Bonaventure added their only run of the day in the third, ahead of the Rams putting a pair of runners on with two outs in the frame, before a two-run double by Sudall and RBI single by Hoppe made it 9-1 Fordham to set the final tally.

The Rams continue their longest homestand of the campaign with a single game Wednesday against Stony Brook at 3:00 p.m.
