Softball Defeats Stony Brook for Sixth Straight Win

The Rams took a 6-0 lead, fighting off a late rally by the Seawolves

BRONX, N.Y. – Taking a 6-0 lead early Wednesday afternoon, Fordham University Softball fought off a late rally by Stony Brook to take a 7-4 win at Bahoshy Field.

Scoring a pair of runs in their first turn at the plate, the Rams pushed across four more in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead early on. Adding a run back in the third, Fordham made it 7-1 in the fourth inning, before a brief seventh inning rally saw Stony Brook score three to extend the game momentarily before being shut down from there.

Fordham has now won six in a row, and 10 of their last 13, improving to 17-16 overall (7-2 A-10) moving over .500 for the first time this season, and 8-1 at home in 2025.

Olivia Simcoe collected her third win of the season, tossing the full 7.0 innings Wednesday with four strikeouts. On the offensive side, Nicki Sudall led the way with three hits and three RBIs on the day, ahead of Kate McGuire with two hits and two RBIs, while Sydney Wells scored a pair while cranking her team-leading seventh home run of the season. Five different Rams came around to score, with Wells and Nogay each scoring twice.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first the Rams loaded the bases with their first three batters, setting up a two-run single by Sudall to put the home side on the board first. Another routine inning out of Simcoe put the Fordham bats back to work quickly, scattering three singles to load the bases again, before a sac fly from Wells made it 3-0.

Another Sudall basehit saw Mikayla Swan come in to score, followed by a two-run single from McGuire to break open a 6-0 Fordham lead. After Stony Brook got on the board with a solo shot in the third, Wells answered with a solo home run to right field to re-establish a six-run lead, before the Seawolves bashed a three-run homer in the seventh to set the final tally ahead of the final out of the afternoon.

The Rams are back in action this Friday and Saturday, moving a weekend series with George Mason up a day, with the doubleheader set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, followed by a tentative 11:00 a.m. start in the finale Saturday afternoon.
