Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis squad extended its winning streak to three matches today with a 4-0 win over St. John's University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's
Lorraine Bergmann and
Lily Chitambar picked up a 5-2 win at second doubles over Giulia Bizzari and Charlotta Buss before the Red Storm won at first doubles. The doubles point came down to the third position which went to a tiebreaker with Fordham's
Paola Ueno Dalmonico and
Catalina Padilla Udaeta defeating Alexandra Nielsen and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde, 7-6 (7-4).
Fordham then won the match by taking the first three completed singles matches.
Paola Ueno Dalmonico picked up the first singles win for the Rams when, after she took the first set, from Alicia Gomez, 7-6 (7-2), at fifth singles Gomez retired due to injury. Bergmann and Padilla Udaeta picked up the other two singles wins for the Rams with Bergmann defeating Alexandra Nielsen, 7-5, 6-2, at third singles and Padilla Udaeta upending Giulia Bizzari at the sixth spot, 6-3, 7-5.
