SAINT LOUIS, MO. – The Rams tacked on a plethora of hits throughout the day, but a strong offensive effort by the home side Friday night saw Fordham University Softball fall at Saint Louis, 10-2 in six innings.
Despite the lopsided scoreline the Rams rattled off nine hits on the day, loading the bases in three different innings, but were only able to plate a pair in the late stages of the game.
Following a scoreless first for both sides Saint Louis took a 2-0 lead in the second and added one more in the third before a four-run fourth saw the home side pull ahead by seven. Fordham added its first run of the day in the fifth, loading the bases for a Mallory McClellan RBI single to put the visitors on the board.
The Billikens answered that run in the bottom of the frame, with Fordham plating its second run of the day as Kate McGuire worked her way around the bases, scoring on a wild pitch. Saint Louis however tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the game by run rule in the series opener.
Fordham and Saint Louis will play a doubleheader tomorrow that is now scheduled to start an hour later than originally scheduled, now slated for a 2:00 p.m. EDT start on Saturday afternoon.
