Boca Raton, Fla. – (March 2, 2025) – FAU's Jake Duer hit a walk-off solo home run, giving the Owls a 6-5 win over the Fordham Rams to complete a series sweep at FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida
FAU wasted little time to get the scoring starting, posting four runs in the first inning off Fordham starter
A.J. Pino. The Owls got RBI-doubles by Jake Duer and Jake Millan, as well as sacrifice flies by
Nick Romano and Kyle Boylston.
Fordham got on the board in the fifth, as the Rams took advantage of an FAU error.
Andrew Kanellis reached base on a one-out error and moved to third on a single by
T.J. Wachter.
Carson Chavez then plated Kanellis with a sacrifice bunt.
The Rams scratched another run across in the sixth on an RBI-single by
Daniel Bucciero, scoring
Taylor Kirk, who reached on a single and stole second.
Fordham closed the gap to one in the seventh when Chavez drove in his second run of the game with a single up the middle to score Kanellis from second after he walked and stole a base.
FAU matched that run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single by Romano, regaining a two-run lead at 5-3.
The Rams rallied again in the top of the eighth, scoring twice to tie the game at five. With one out, Bucciero roped a double to center and moved to third on
Madden Ocko's single.
Matt Dieguez followed with a two-run single up the middle to score both runners.
The score stayed tied until the bottom of the ninth, when Duer hit a walk-off home run to right center to win the game, 6-5.
The home run spoiled a brilliant game from the Fordham bullpen, as they pitched 8.2 innings in relief of Pino.
Gannon Brady (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in two-plus innings of work.
Koen Smith tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, while
Chase Hanawalt threw three innings of one-hit relief with two strikeouts. At the plate, Bucciero was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI, while Dieguez and Chavez each had a hit and two RBI.
Fordham is back at home for its next game, hosting Stony Brook on Tuesday, March 4
th at 3:00 PM at Houlihan Park.
