BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham University Softball took the lead early, but a Clemson rally in the second and third saw the visiting Tigers pull away for a 14-1 victory Wednesday afternoon.
Fordham closes its opening homestand of the campaign 4-1, falling to 11-14 on the year while Clemson improves to 21-9.
The Maroon and White led off the game with a 1-2-3 first inning from Watkins, before Sydney Wells gave the Rams the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame. Clemson battled back with three runs in the second and poured on eight runs in the third to take a commanding lead, and never looked back adding runs in the fourth and fifth, before shutting down the Rams to take the game by run rule.
Kate McGuire and Neleh Nogay would also tally hits for Fordham on the day, as the Rams threatened with both in scoring position in the third, but were unable to plate a run.
Fordham returns to action this weekend with a trip to Missouri for three games against Saint Louis, Saturday and Sunday afternoon with both days starting at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
