Washington, D.C. – Anyone who has been to Washington, D.C., knows that all lettered streets in the district occur in alphabetical order—except for J, because there is no J Street. The most likely explanation is that people thought it would be confused with I Street, since the two letters were frequently used interchangeably during the 18th century. Fordham basketball fans may soon petition the district to add a J Street as in
Jackie Johnson III and
Japhet Medor. The two, appearing in their final game as a Ram helped mount a tremendous comeback as the Rams rallied from 13 points down to take a late lead but Fordham couldn't hold on as George Washington escaped with an 88-81 win over Fordham in the second round of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Capital One Arena.
With the loss, Fordham closes out the season at 12-21 while George Washington improves to 21-11.
Johnson led all scorers in the game, netting 35 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 7-for-9 from behind the arc, while Medor added 13 points and dished out four assists.
Joshua Rivera also finished in double figures for the Rams with eleven points while
Abdou Tsimbila, also playing in his final game for Fordham, scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked three shots.
The Rams trailed by eight at the break, 43-35, but opened the second half with a 10-5 spurt to pull within three, 48-45, on a Johnson three 3:17 into the half.
The Revolutionaries managed to get the lead to eleven, 58-47, with 13:25 remaining and then took a 13-point lead, 66-53, midway through the half.
After the teams exchanged baskets, George Washington led 68-55 with 8:33 left before the Rams charged back, going on a 19-4 run to take their first lead of the game, 74-72, following a Tsimbila tip-in with 2:18 remaining.
But George Washington's Trey Autry got hot, hitting three straight long distance shots over the next 1:12 as the Revolutionaries took an 81-76 lead with 44 seconds on the clock.
A pair of Medor free throws got the Rams within three, 81-78,with 38 seconds left and Fordham would get within three again with eight seconds remaining on a Johnson three but George Washington connected on its final four free throws to clinch the win.
