Queens, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's tennis team built off its first win of the spring season on Friday afternoon by picking up its second, a 4-3 decision over Queens College at the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble.
"It was a great effort by the team today," said head coach
David Slater. "It wasn't always pretty but they found a way to win and that's what matters at the end of the day."
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. After losing at first doubles, the Rams came back to take second doubles as Phillip Hued and
Filip Horak defeated Lucas Foix Sotos and Viktor Ek Johansson, 6-3. The double point came down to third doubles where
Ruben Russwurm and
Will Lokier picked up a win for the Rams, defeating Loup Alleno and Caleb Brightman 7-6(5).
The Rams picked up three points with singles wins at the second, third, and fifth positions. After Queens tied the game with a win at fourth singles, Horak gave Fordham a 2-12 lead with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Tim Andersson at the second position.
The Knights retied the match at two with a win at sixth singles before Lokier battled Alleno at the third spot, dropping the first set, 6-4, before coming back to win the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-3.
Queens tied the match for a third time with a win at first singles so the match came down to fifth singles where Russwurm took the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second, 6-0. But Russwurm battled back to take the third, 6-4, to clinch the win for the Rams.
