Boca Raton, Fla. – (March 1, 2025) – FAU's Jake Duer went 4-for-5 with four runs scored to lead the Owls to an 11-1 win over the Fordham Rams on Saturday afternoon at FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida.
Like Friday, Fordham (2-8) opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. The Rams loaded the bases right away on singles by
Taylor Kirk and
Reid Lapekas, while
Daniel Bucciero drew a walk. After a strikeout,
Matt Dieguez was able to beat out a double play ball, allowing Kirk to score.
FAU had an immediate answer with three runs in the bottom half of the first, getting runs on a balk, a wild pitch, and an RBI-double by John Martinez.
The Owls added to the lead with two runs in the second, which came off three Fordham errors, and one in the third off another Fordham error to go up by a 6-1 score.
The score remained that way until the sixth, as John Schroeder and
Nick Romano each had a sacrifice fly to put two more runs on the board for the Owls. FAU then capped the scoring with three in the seventh, highlighted by a home run by Brando Leroux.
Mike Rabayda (0-3) took the loss for Fordham, allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits in three innings of work.
Beau Elson gave up two runs over three inning with four strikeouts, while
Andres Perez and
Anthony Scarlata each pitched an inning. At the plate, Kirk was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while
Tommy Markey also had two hits, ncluding a double.
Game three of the series is set for Sunday at 12:00 PM.
