Baseball Drops Doubleheader at #13 N.C. State

Series Concludes on Saturday with a 2:00 PM Game

Raleigh, N.C. – (February 14, 2025) – The Fordham baseball team opened its 2025 season on Friday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the 13th-ranked N.C. State Wolfpack at Doak Field at Dail Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The Wolfpack posted an 11-1 win in eight innings in game one, followed by a 12-2 victory in game two in seven innings.
 
In game one, the Wolfpack opened the scoring in the first on an RBI-ground out by Alex Sosa, scoring Josh Hogue from third.
 
Fordham then tied the game at one in the fourth inning.  Matt Dieguez lifted a long fly ball to the right field corner, which was dropped, allowing Dieguez to reach third base.  Carson Chavez then plated Dieguez with a sacrifice fly to center.
 
N.C. State got the lead back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring twice for a 3-1 edge.  With two on and two out, Justin DeCriscio and Drew Lanphere connected on back-to-back RBI-singles to put the Wolfpack in front. The lead extended to 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh, as Sosa highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to left for N.C. State.  The Wolfpack then closed out the game with four runs in the eighth inning to invoke the run-rule and post an 11-1 win.
 
For Fordham, Beau Elson (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Aric Berg.  Berg allowed one run over 3.2 innings with four strikeouts, while Elson gave up two runs in 2.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Rams opened with a 1-0 lead in the first, getting runners to second and third with two outs.  Madden Ocko then drew a walk, where ball four went wild, allowing Taylor Kirk to score.
 
N.C. State answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, getting a sacrifice fly by Brayden Fraasman and a two-run home run by Matt Ossenfort.
 
Fordham cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the third, loading the bases with two outs and having Reid Lapekas score on a wild pitch.
 
The Wolfpack came back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, extending the lead to 7-2.  Ty Head opened the scoring with an RBI-double, while Luke Nixon had a two-run double down the right line.  Chris McHugh then singled home Nixon.
 
Three more runs came across in the sixth and two in the seventh for 12-2 final score in seven innings.
 
Aidan Dowd (0-1) took the loss for Fordham, allowing six earned runs over 3.1
 
The series will conclude with a single game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
