Morgan's Dagger Shot Leads Fordham Over Adelphi 60-51

The Rams pulled ahead late to secure the win on opening night

BRONX, NY -- Tia Morgan knocked down a dagger 3-pointer with 1:53 left in the fourth quarter to put Fordham ahead 56-49, and the Rams secured a 60-51 victory against the Adelphi Panthers at home Monday.

The Rams (1-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Ugne Sirtautaite, who had 14 points and six rebounds. Alexis Black added 14 points and four assists and Kaila Berry added nine points, nine rebounds and four steals.

Fordham out-rebounded Adelphi 37-26 in Monday's game, led by Berry's nine boards. The Rams also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.

The Fordham defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 22 Adelphi turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Berry's four steals led the way individually for the Rams.

How It Happened

Fordham struggled out of the gate, falling behind 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Adelphi kept adding to its lead, building a 15-7 advantage before Fordham went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Black, to narrow its deficit to 15-13. The Rams then kept gaining ground and tied the contest at 24-24 heading into halftime. Fordham forced six Adelphi turnovers in the period and turned them into seven points.

After intermission, Adelphi snatched a 33-24 lead before Fordham answered back by going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Black, to trim its deficit to 33-31 with 3:06 to go in the third. The Rams continued their rally and brought things level at 37-37 entering the fourth quarter. Fordham played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.

Fordham then grabbed a 46-44 lead before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Precious Omoshola's layup, to grow its advantage to 51-44 with 3:28 to go in the contest. The Rams kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 60-51 win. Fordham took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 16 of its 23 points in the paint.
