Black Tallies Program Record in 2OT Heartbreaker at Seton Hall

Black set a school record with 42 points on the night

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- With a pair of late free throws by the home side in the final second of regulation, it would take a total of three hours and two overtime periods to settle the score Thursday night the Fordham women's basketball team fell to the Seton Hall Pirates 90-83 in double overtime on the road Thursday.

The Rams (3-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Alexis Black, who tallied a program record 42 points, along with four assists and two steals. Black broke the long-standing record of 40 points set by Jeanine Radice on Dec. 5, 1987, and her seven three pointers made is tied for the fifth most in a single game in program history as well. Elsewhere for Fordham, Ugne Sirtautaite added a double-double off of the bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Tia Morgan added six points, six rebounds and four assists.

Fordham grabbed 48 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to Seton Hall's 46, led by Sirtautaite's 11 boards. The Rams also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 16 rebounds into 17 second chance points.

Fordham's defense held Seton Hall to only 32.4 percent shooting from the field. The Rams also limited Jada Eads to 4-of-16 shooting in the game.

How It Happened

After falling behind 7-5, Fordham went on a 5-0 run with 5:38 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Maysen Hill, to take a 10-7 lead. The Rams then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 21-16.

Fordham then cut the Pirates lead to 27-24 before going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three from Black, to take a 32-27 lead. The Pirates then came roaring back to take a 36-34 lead heading into halftime.

Seton Hall continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 40-34 advantage before Fordham went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Black, to tie things up at 40 with 7:28 to go in the third. By the time the end of the third quarter rolled around, neither team was able to assert control and the game remained tied at 54-54 entering the fourth. Fordham played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.

The Pirates then snagged a 61-56 advantage before Fordham responded by going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Black's three, to even the score at 61 all with 6:59 to go in the fourth. Neither team was able to finish the game in regulation and the contest headed to overtime tied at 72-72. Fordham took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 18 points in the paint.

Seton Hall then snagged a 73-72 advantage with 2:59 left in the first overtime before Fordham responded by going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Black's jumper, to seize a 77-73 lead with 2:19 to go in the period. Seton Hall then fought back to extend the game to another overtime before eventually prevailing in the second extra frame to win 90-83.
