Women’s Soccer Advances to #A10WSOC Championship Semifinal

Rams Draw with Duquesne; Advance on Penalty Kicks, 6-5

Pittsburgh, Pa. – (November 1, 2025) – A career performance from senior goalkeeper Kyla King as well as six penalty kick conversions pushed the Fordham Rams past the Duquesne Dukes and into the semifinals of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field.
 
THE GAME
  • Fordham opened the scoring in the sixth minute on a brilliant strike by Riley Carroll that deflected off the left post and into the net for her career-high fifth goal of the season.
  • The Dukes tied the game at one in the 41st minute, when Paige Kuisis netted her second goal of the season off an assist by Libby Majka.
  • The game then turned into a goalkeeper showdown with Fordham's Kyla King and Duquesne's Ali Hughes as both were able to hold the opposition at bay through regulation and both sessions of overtime, leading to a penalty kick shootout.
  • Fordham's Liina Tervo, Salma Simonin, Ava Giudice, Sarah Quinn, and Lucy Rios converted the first five penalties, but the Dukes matched the Rams goal for goal.
  • Julia Acosta then converted a sixth penalty kick to put Fordham ahead, 6-5.King then made a diving stop on Kaitlyn Killinger's attempt for Duquesne to put the Rams in the Atlantic 10 semifinal for the first time since 2015.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Kyla King piled up a career-high 14 saves in the match for Fordham.
  • The Rams now have six players with at least 10 points this season for the first time in team history (Carroll, Tervo, Lena Johnsen, Giudice, Acosta, and Renata Mercedes)
  • Fordham is now 3-0 all-time in Atlantic 10 Championship shootouts (2007 vs. Dayton – 4-3; 2015 vs. George Mason – 4-2).
  • The 14 saves by King are the most for a Ram in an Atlantic 10 Championship game.  The previous high was 13 by Elisabeth Roald in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship final.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Rams will now play at top seeded Dayton on Wednesday, November 5th in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals with game time at 7:00 PM.
