Ram defense makes early Luke Pompliano goal standup

Bronx, N.Y. – The University of Dayton men's soccer team entered tonight's match at Fordham with six ties on the season. And after an early Luke Pompliano tally gave the Rams a 1-0 lead, the Flyers pressed hard in an attempt for tie number seven. But the Fordham defense wouldn't break as Fordham defeated Dayton by the 1-0 score at Moglia Stadium.
 
With the win, Fordham improves to 6-2-3 overall, 3-0-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton falls to 3-2-6 overall, 2-1-2 in the conference.
 
How it Happened
• Fordham scored the game's lone goal in the third minute when Luke Pompliano collected a misplayed ball by Dayton keeper Gavin Krenecki in the box and slid the ball into the net from eight yards.  
 
Notes
• The goal was the third of the season for Pompliano.
 
• Fordham keeper Tristan Stephani made one save in recording his fourth shutout in seven games started this year.
 
• The two teams entered the game tied for first in the Atlantic 10.
 
• Fordham has won two of the past three meetings with Dayton.
