WASHINGTON - Following a stellar week that saw her post a career-high in points, a double-double, and a buzzer-beating game winner, Fordham's Irene Murua was named the Under Armour Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
Murua averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game across a pair of come from behind victories for the Maroon and White against two of the top teams in the A-10 entering league play. Murua dropped a career-high 24 points Thursday on 11-of-16 shooting, helping the Rams to an 80-78 victory over defending A-10 Champion Richmond at the Rose Hill Gym.
The Arrassate, Spain native then posted her third double-double of the season Sunday at Duquesne, with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and put up the game winning shot to lift the Rams to a 64-62 win at the buzzer in Pittsburgh.
For the season, Murua leads the team shooting 57.1% from the field, fourth best in the league, while her 6.8 rebounds per game also lead the Rams and place her 11th amongst all A-10 players.
Murua and the Rams (8-6, 2-1)Â return to action Wednesday afternoon in The Bronx when they host George Washington in the annual "Kids Day Out" game at 11:00 a.m. in the Rose Hill Gym.
