Amherst, Mass. – (September 26, 2024) – The Massachusetts Minutewomen scored twice in the first half and twice in the second, as they picked up a 4-2 women's soccer win over the Fordham Rams on a rainy afternoon in Amherst Massachusetts.
The Minutewomen opened the scoring in the 24
th minute, as after a corner kick opportunity was punched away by
Kyla King, Fordham was unable to clear the zone. Ella Curry put a cross back into the box that King tried to punch away again, but Chandler Pedolzky was able to get a piece of it first, deflecting the ball into the goal for her fourth of the season.
UMass increased the lead to 2-0 in the 29
th minute when Curry laid off a pass to the endline for Nia Hislop. Hislop crossed the ball toward the center of the box to Bella Recinos, who ripped a shot from 15 yards inside the right post. It was her fifth of the year.
The Minutewomen pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second half on goals by Juliana Ryan and Ashley Lamond in the 50
th and 53
rd minute, respectively.
Fordham got on the board in the 54
th minute, as
Riley Carroll intercepted a clearance by UMass goalkeeper Bella Mendoza and slotted a shot inside the left post past Mendoza for her second goal of the season.
The Rams then made it a 4-2 game in the 71
st minute, as
Ryann Lucas and
Julia Acosta played a quick give and go near the sideline with Lucas crossing the ball toward the right side of the box.
Liina Tervo got on the other end of the cross for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Fordham though could not get any closer falling by the two-goal margin. In net, King tied a career-high with seven saves, while Mendoza was credited with two.
The Rams have their next Atlantic 10 contest on Sunday, September 29
th, as Fordham heads to Richmond for a 2:00 PM match.
