Women’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play with Win at George Mason

Rams Score Three Times in Final 15 Minutes

Fairfax, Va. – (September 19, 2024) – The Fordham women's soccer team scored three times in the final 15 minutes of action to post a 3-0 Atlantic 10 win over the George Mason Patriots at George Mason Stadium on Thursday night.

The win marks the third straight season that Fordham (6-2-1, 1-0 A10) has opened Atlantic 10 play with a win, while George Mason fell to 2-6-2 overall, 0-1 in the league.

Despite having a heavy advantage in shots, Fordham found itself in a 0-0 game 75 minutes into the match against the Patriots.

That all changed in the span of 47 seconds, as the Rams scored twice in the 78th and 79th minutes to grab a 2-0 lead.  Fordham opened the scoring on a penalty kick conversion by Lena Johnsen in the 78th minute, after Julia Acosta was taken down in the box.  It was Johnsen's second goal of the season.

Only 47 seconds later, Baylee Canet won a contested ball and pushed it toward Abby Borchers.  Borchers then chipped a through ball to Liina Tervo on the run in the box, who quickly flicked the ball past the goalkeeper inside the right post for her fifth goal of the season.

Fordham then capped the scoring with a buzzer beater goal at the one second mark on the clock.  Allison Gardner made a run into the box, crossing the ball to Carmen Hardwick, who snuck a shot inside the right post from 12 yards out.  It was Hardwick's first goal of the season.

Fordham's Addison Green made two saves in goal for her third clean sheet of the season, while George Mason's Victoria Coninck registered eight saves.

The Rams return to Moglia Stadium for the first time in almost a month for the team's next contest.  Fordham will host Loyola Chicago for an Atlantic 10 contest on Sunday, September 22nd, starting at 1:00 PM.  It will also be Alumni Day for the Fordham women's soccer team.
