McFarlane’s Goal Pushes Rams Past Drexel, 1-0

Fordham Moves to 2-0 for First Time Since 2010

Bronx, N.Y. – (August 22, 2024) – A brilliant blast from Fordham's Tristan McFarlane in the 37th minute proved to be the difference on Thursday night, as the Rams topped the Drexel Dragons, 1-0, at Moglia Stadium.

With the win, Fordham improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2010, while Drexel fell to 0-2.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 37th minute, as Baylee Canet ran the ball down the right side, finding Ryann Lucas at the top corner of the box.  Lucas turned and found Tristan McFarlane for a blast into the top right corner from 25 yards out.  It was the senior's first career goal in 51 games played.

The Rams had chances to extend the lead in the second half, getting a penalty kick attempt in the 52nd minute, but the shot rang off the right post to keep it a 1-0 score.

Then in the 58th minute, Julia Acosta cut into the box from the left side and hit a high riser shot that was pushed away by Drexel goalkeeper Sammy Widnick.

The Dragons then pushed the play for the rest of the match, attempting to get the equalizer.  The best chance came in the 88th minute, when Casey Touey's shot was knocked away by Fordham goalkeeper Addison Green to hold on for the shutout.  Green made three saves overall for her first career clean sheet, while Widnick had five stops for Drexel.

Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, August 25th, when the Rams host the UAlbany Great Danes at 1:00 PM.
