BREAKING IT DOWN
Coach Mitchells' newcomers of the 2024-2025 squad showed their chemistry right out of the gates. There were 12 of 14 Rams that saw playing time with 11 players tallying at least one field goal for the game. Defensively the Rams out-rebounded their opponents with 11-of-12 players tallying a rebound with transfer junior Emma Wilson-Saltos leading the team with 10 of the 65 on the night. Nine Rams collected a steal in Tuesday's contest, with forward freshman Anastasija Velijovic leading with four, and five players, including Velijovic, nabbing two or more.
A pair of returners would lead the scoring efforts behind 15 points from Taya Davis, who also added five rebounds and two assists. Last year's Atlantic 10 leader in points per game, Taylor Donaldson, followed suit with nine points and three rebounds, as she returns for her graduate season with the Rams.
Rose Nelson and Graduate transfers Irene Murua Txintxuretta and Zaria Shazer each had five plus rebounds with Shazer putting up eight by herself, and round out the first quintet of starters for this year's Fordham squad.
Another dominant force in the paint was freshman Precious Omoshola who put up 11 points making five out of six field goals on the night. Her defensive force built momentum for the Rams at the rim. Fellow freshman Karissa Antoine came in with five rebounds, but many second-effort plays from the freshman.
Anastasija Veljovic would tally seven points in her first action since arriving for her first year of collegiate ball, and would have an instant impact on the defensive end, recording a team-high four steals, and rounded out her performance with a block and four rebounds as well. Pacing the assist numbers, Amiyah Ferguson, a sophomore transfer from Cal State-Northridge, would dish out three dimes while also recording a pair of rebounds and a steal.
