Baseball Falls at St. Bonaventure, 5-3

Daniel Bucciero Goes 4-for-4 with a Home Run for Fordham

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – (May 16, 2024) – St. Bonaventure's Morgan Little hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, while Bobby Finn threw three innings of scoreless relief, as the Bonnies posted a 5-3 win over the Fordham Rams at Fred Handler Park in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
 
Fordham (19-31, 10-12 A10) opened scoring right away in the first inning, getting hits fro the first three batters.  Daniel Bucciero led off with a single and moved to third on a single by Ryan ThiesseCian Sahler then plated Bucciero with a single for a 1-0 lead.
 
St. Bonaventure (16-30, 6-16 A10) tied the game at one in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Harrison Kaufman.
 
The Rams went back on top in the third, courtesy of a St. Bonaventure error, as Matt Dieguez reached on an error and eventually scored on an RBI-ground out by Sahler.
 
Fordham made it 3-1 in the fifth inning, when Bucciero cranked a solo home run to left for his ninth of the season.
 
The Bonnies then rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame to knot the game at three and then grabbed a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning.  In the sixth, Morgan Little connected on a two-run home run to right, his sixth of the season.
 
The Rams had their chances in the final three innings, getting the two runners on in both the seventh and eighth innings, while seeing the tying run at the plate in the ninth, but were unable to score against St. Bonaventure relievers Bobby Finn and Tristan Ciampa, who combined for four innings of scoreless relief.
 
For Fordham, Declan Lavelle (6-6) took the loss, allowing five runs over seven innings of work.  At the plate, Bucciero was 4-for-4 with a home run and two run scored, while Thiesse was 3-for-4 with three singles.
 
The same two teams match up for game two on Friday afternoon at noon.
