Orlando, Fla. – The Fordham University women's tennis team, seeded fourth, continued the strong defense of its Atlantic 10 title today with a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded Davidson College in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship at the USTA National Campus.
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. After the Rams lost at first doubles,
Xiaowei "Rose" Hu and
Eleni Fasoula evened it up with a 6-3 win over Davidson's Emma Heiderscheit and Savanna Kollock at second doubles and then
Franny Shea and
Julianne Nguyen clinched the point for Fordham with a 6-2 win at third doubles over Olivia Hooper and Ines Roti.
The Rams then took the first three completed singles matches for the 4-0 win. Fasoula made 2-0 for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Davidson's Savanna Kollock at fourth singles before Franny Shae put Fordham up 3-0 when she defeated Charlotte Calderwood, 6-2, 7-6(3), at the sixth position.
Anlin Xie then ended the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, win over Emma Heiderscheit at third singles.
