Bronx, N.Y. – After seeing its eight-match winning streak snapped last week at Massachusetts, the Fordham University women's tennis team got back on track today, shutting out Saint Joseph's University, 4-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts for their eighth straight win.
Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches.
Raffaela Alhach and
Anlin Xie got things started with a 6-1 win at first doubles over Victoria Tracey and Fabiana Tort-Umpierre and then
Eleni Fasoula and
Xiaowei "Rose" Hu clinched the point for Fordham by defeating Sophia Amato and Ireland Amato, 6-4, at the second position.
The Rams then took the first three completed singles matches for the 4-0 win. Xie made it a 2-0 match with a 6-1, 6-1, decision over Sophia Amato at third singles and then Fasoula defeated Charlotte Kordonowy, 6-2, 6-4, at the fourth position to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
Hu clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Fabiana Tort-Umpierre at second singles.
