Softball Downs UMass 12-4 in Series Finale

The Rams tallied 14 hits Sunday, with eight different players recording a hit

AMHERST, Mass. – Another big day for the bats Sunday afternoon, Fordham University softball scattered double digit hits for the third straight game en route to a 12-4 victory over UMass.

Fordham would sound off for 12 runs on 14 hits on the afternoon, and while helped in part by four UMass errors, would see eight different Rams reach base safely with five players recording an RBI. Michaela Carter would lead the efforts at the dish with three RBI's on the day, while both Nicki Sudall and Neleh Nogay tallied three hits and an RBI apiece.

Eva Koratsis would also knock in a pair of runs, and draw two walks, as did Sydney Wells. Coming around to score four times Bailey Enoch would draw a walk and notched a pair of hits, while in the circle Devon Miller tossed her third complete game in her last four outings for her fifth victory of the campaign, recording six strikeouts Sunday afternoon.

The first three Rams to the dish would all reach base safely to load the game right out of the gates, before a Carter double to the gap cleared the pond to put the visitors up 3-0 early. UMass would tally a run back in the bottom of the frame, but Fordham re-extended a three run lead in the second as Enoch scored on a throwing error with two outs in the frame.

A five-run third inning would see the Rams break open an eight run lead, using back to back doubles with a runner on to score two early in the inning, and the small ball would continue from there, working runners around the bases on a pair of singles and and a walk to plate three more runs and pull away. After adding two runs back in the bottom of the inning, the two sides would go scoreless in the fourth, ahead of a two run Koratsis double in the fifth put Fordham back up by seven.

Answering one of those runs with a leadoff homerun in their turn at the plate, UMass and Fordham would each be held off the board again in the sixth, before the Rams added one final run on Nogay's second stolen base of the day, forcing a throw down to second that allowed Enoch to score from third.

Fordham softball is back in action Tuesday afternoon as they head out to Long Island for a meeting with Missouri at 2:00 p.m. with the game being played on the campus of Hofstra.
