JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2024) – Kicking off the 2024 regular season with a pair of games in Florida Friday afternoon, Fordham University softball split the first of three days at the River City Leadoff Tournament.
Taking on Southern Miss to start the day, the Rams would take a 3-1 win in the season opener over the Eagles, with Neleh Nogay leading the way on offense, bringing all three runs around to score in the second. The Rams would fall 10-2 in the second game of the day against the hosts North Florida, with Eva Koratsis and Nicki Sudall each tallying an RBI.
After a quiet first inning for both sides in game one, Bella Ayala would be the first to reach base safely on a single to right, followed by a pair of walks to load the bases. Nogay would step up to the dish and clear the diamond as she legged out a three-run triple to give her team the lead. That would be all Devon Miller needed in the circle as she tossed a complete game, while giving up just one run on four hits in the process.
Game two would see North Florida strike early on to take the lead, with the Rams tacking on a pair of runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning.
Fordham softball is back in action tomorrow with two more games in Jacksonville, this time on the campus of Jacksonville University, with the Rams taking on Southern Miss again at 11:00 a.m. and the host Dolphins at 4:00 p.m.
