JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2024) – Opening the day with a thrilling walk-off victory over Southern Miss, Fordham University softball split its second day of action at the River City Leadoff in Florida.
The Rams would open the day with a second meeting against Southern Miss, after claiming a 3-1 win over the Eagles on Friday. Holly Beeman would give up just two runs in a complete game effort in the circle Saturday, keeping the score within reach for Fordham to mount a comeback on offense late.
Down to their last opportunity to bat in the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff walk by Petrovich would see her advance to second, followed by a walk to Ayala to put the tying run on with one away. A Koratsis single would load the bases for McGuire to rip one past third to score a run and cut the deficit in half.
After nearly giving up the tying run on that hit, a play at the plate to keep it a one score game, Southern Miss would make a pitching change to try and stop the rally. That wouldn't prevent Mikayla Swan from driving in the tying run on another single, with still just one out in the frame.
After being the hero the day prior with all three RBIs against the Eagles Friday, Nogay would come up clutch once again, sending a base hit into left field to win the game, scoring McGuire from third.
Jacksonville would pull away early in game two, taking the victory in five innings later in the day.
The Rams will wrap the weekend at the River City Leadoff tomorrow morning when they take on Ball State at 9:00 a.m. back on the campus of North Florida.
