JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - A high scoring affair in the Sunshine State, Fordham University softball fell to Ball State 10-8 Sunday morning.
Both teams would bash four runs in their first turn at the dish, setting the table for an offensive battle the rest of the way.Â
Sydney Wells would go 2-for-4 on the afternoon, drilling a two-run home run to tally a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Devon Miller would also drive in a pair of runs while tossing five innings in the circle giving up six hits and tallying three strikeout. When it was all said and done, seven players in the Rams' order tallied both a hit and a run scored, while five different players recorded an RBI.
After the Cardinals opened with a hot start, Fordham would answer all four runs scored to start the game, making it 4-4 after just one inning of play, turning attention to the offense on both sides.
A solo home run in the third would be answered by the Rams in the bottom half of the frame, with the Rams adding a pair of runs to take a 6-5 lead through the sixth. It was in the sixth that Ball State would tack on four runs in the top half of the inning.Â
Fordham would counter with a two-run shot to right center by Wells to make it 10-8 heading to the seventh, but a quiet offensive inning for both teams helped the Cardinals hold off the Rams for the win.
The Rams conclude the opening tournament of the year 2-3, and will head to California next week for five games as part of the Silicon Valley Classic in Santa Clara and San Jose.
