Deland, Fla. – (February 24, 2024) – Maine's Jason Kreiger struck out six over five innings, while getting 16 runs from his offense, as the Black Bears defeated the Fordham Rams, 16-2, at Stetson's Melching Field in Deland, Fla.
Maine opened with a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Jake Marquez and Jeremiah Jenkins hit back-to-back solo home runs.
Fordham answered with two runs in the second, as
Steve Luttazi led off with a walk and
Henry Pelinski was hit by a pitch.
Michael Brueser followed with an RBI-double to score Luttazi, while
Madden Ocko hit a sacrifice fly to right to knot the game at two.
The Black Bears jumped back in front in the bottom of the frame, scoring twice for a 4-2 lead.
Nick White extended the Maine lead to 6-2 in the third, hitting a two-run home run to right.
Not much went right the rest of the game for Fordham, as the Black Bears scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game by a 16-2 score in seven innings.
Fordham had a tough day on the mound, allowing 14 walks as a team. Starter
Nate Scott (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over 2.2 innings of work. At the plate,
Daniel Bucciero was 2-for-4 with a double, while
Andrew Kanellis was 2-for-3.
The Rams finish the weekend with a game against Stetson on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
