Women's Basketball Heads to Riverdale for Battle of the Bronx

Fordham takes on the Jaspers Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+

NEW YORK – Heading up the road for the annual "Battle of The Bronx", Fordham University women's basketball takes on Manhattan, Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

Turn Up and Tune In

The Rams take on the Jaspers live on ESPN+ with Jason Gurrette and Chris Williams on the call. Matchup Notes

Holding a four-game advantage in the all-time series with Manhattan, Fordham leads the "Battle of The Bronx" 29-25, but last season it was the Jaspers taking the win at Rose Hill. Prior to that, Fordham had won the previous 11 matchups with Manhattan, the longest win streak in the history of the series. Fordham hasn't lost a game in Riverdale since the 2009-10 season.

About Manhattan

Off to a hot start in 2024-25, the Jaspers sit at 3-1 on the year, with their lone loss coming in the season opener, just a six point setback at Rutgers. The Jaspers defeated Central Connecticut, LIU, and Hofstra all by double-digits following that loss. Petra Juric and Nitzan Amar pace the offense for Manhattan averaging 15.0 points/game and 10.3/game respectively.

On the Glass

With 24 rebounds through the first four games, Irene Murua leads the Rams, averaging 6.0 rebounds/game, leading seven different players to average at least 3.0 rebounds per game through the first two weeks of the season. Murua has also been crucial in giving her team extra opportunities, pulling down 3.8 rebounds/game on the offensive glass, with 15 already this season. Fordham has pulled down 48 offensive rebounds as a team, and overall have collected 35.3 rebounds/game.

You Shall Not Pass

In a dominating effort against Saint Peter's Taylor Donaldson would make her first start of the 2024-25 campaign, and set a new career high, collecting six steals against Saint Peter's, and sits tied with Taya Davis for the team lead with seven steals. The Rams have gotten in the passing lanes early and often, collecting double-digit steals in three of the first four games of the year. Chae Harris has collected six steals ahead of four from Precious Omoshola and four from Amiyah Ferguson.

In their first action of the 2024-25 campaign, the Maroon and White collected 13 steals led by a career-high five from Taya Davis, leading six different Rams to collect at least one. The Maroon and White would match that total against  Cal St. Fullerton, collecting another 13 steals, while forcing the Titans into 19 turnovers for the game. Both Precious Omoshola and Kaila Berry set a new career-high with four steals apiece, ahead of three from Camila De Pool, also a career-best for the Rams' rookie.

Efficiency Matters

Shooting just shy of 40% from the field as a team, the Rams have seven players shooting better than that from the floor individually. Murua paces the Rams' offense at 9.5 points per game off 14-of-25 shooting for the year, while Chae Harris follows averaging 9.0 points per game, after an 18-point performance in her Fordham debut, including 3-of-7 shooting from three-point range.

Soaring Against Saint Peter's

Pulling away comfortably in the first half, the Rams would fight off a late comeback by the Peacocks as Fordham defeated Saint Peter's, 64-58, at the Rose Hill Gym. Friday night's victory gave the Maroon and White their fifth consecutive victory in the all-time series against Saint Peter's, improving to 2-2 on the year, while the Peacocks fell to 0-3.

Leading the way in her first start of the 2024-25 campaign, Donaldson would tally 21 points, making six shots, including three from long-range, while also shooting a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Donaldson would also tally a career-high six steals, collecting over half of the Rams' 11 as a team Friday night.

Murua would tally 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with four rebounds, while Ferguson added nine points along with a team-high five assists. Harris would tally seven points, while collecting three steals for herself and four rebounds as well.

Next Stop

Returning home to take on another Empire State foe, the Rams will take on Siena Saturday night at 7:30 at the Rose Hill Gym.
