Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at George Washington Friday

WASHINGTON – Hitting the road for the first time amidst the Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule, Fordham University Volleyball fell in four sets at George Washington Friday night.

Taking control in the first stages of the game, George Washington would push an early lead, as much as 11-4, and continued to pour it on, taking a 25-7 win in the opening frame. Fordham would bounce back however, keeping things much closer in set two, pulling away down the stretch and securing a win to level the match at one apiece.

Set three saw the two sides keep close early, but the Revolutionaries would begin to pull away as the set progressed, taking a 25-14 win to go back up in the match. Fordham would give the home side a fight in the fourth as well, but George Washington kept hold of their early lead, seeing it out for an eight point win in set four to win the match 3-1.

Whitley Moody would lead the Rams her eighth double-double of the season, with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Whitney Woodrow would dish out 23 helpers to pace the assists and Ryan Naumann led the team in digs with 14.

After garnering an early advantage, the homeside would hold momentum for the entirety of set one, as George Washington opened the night with a big lead, and pulled away for a 25-7 win. 

Resilient in set two, Fordham would see the Revolutionaries open with a four point lead early, but quickly erased that deficit, and kept the home side within three points the rest of the way. The Rams would rattle off four straight points to pull even and take the lead at 19-17, pulling away a couple of points later to take a 25-22 win and level the match 1-1.

Trading point-for-point to open set three, Fordham would find itself trailing by just one early, ahead of a quick stretch of points by George Washington to open a five point lead and go on to take a 25-14 win to take back momentum.

The Revs would once again take control to open the fourth set, pushing an eight point lead to start out, but Fordham would slowly begin to creep back as the set continued. Climbing back to within a handful of points, the Rams would get as close as three points down the stretch, with George Washington taking a 25-17 set victory to win the match in four.

Fordham and the Revolutionaries will duke it out again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Washington D.C.
