Bronx, N.Y. – (October 3, 2024) – Fordham's
Ryann Lucas scored twice in the opening 15 minutes on Thursday night to lead the Rams to a 3-1 Atlantic 10 women's soccer win over the Duquesne Dukes at Moglia Stadium.
With the win, Fordham improved to 8-3-2 on the year, 3-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne fell to 8-4, 2-3-0 in the
league. It was also the Rams' first win over the Dukes since 2013.
The scoring started with a perfect set piece by the Rams in the 11
th minute.
Lena Johnsen played a corner kick into the box, finding
Ryann Lucas for the header goal from eight yards out. It was Lucas' first goal of the season.
Lucas quickly picked up her second goal of the night in the 15
th minute on a penalty kick, after
Fernanda Serna was taken down in the box. Lucas blasted a shot past goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer for the 2-0 lead.
Fordham registered a third first half goal in the 42
nd minute, as
Ava Giudice found
Julia Acosta near the sideline with Acosta driving toward the box. She bent a shot that hit the bottom of the right post and into the net for her sixth goal of the season and a 3-0 advantage.
Duquesne got on the board in the 63
rd minute on a corner kick. Margey Brown floated a cross to the center of the box, which Maya Matesa headed home for her second tally of the year.
That would be the lone goal allowed by the Rams, taking the 3-1 victory behind four saves by
Addison Green, who improved to 8-0-2 on the year. Nuendorfer finished with six saves for the Dukes.
Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, October 6
th, as the Rams head to Davidson for a 1:00 PM conference match.
