Men’s Soccer Fends Off Dayton, 4-2

Fordham’s Daniel D’Ippolito Nets a Goal & Two Assists in Win

Dayton, Ohio – (October 12, 2024) – Behind a goal and two assists by Daniel D'Ippolito, the Fordham Rams came away with a 4-2 victory over the Dayton Flyers at Baujan Field in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action on Saturday night.

With the win, Fordham improved to 5-3-4 overall, 2-1-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton fell to 5-2-3, 1-1-2 in the league.  It was the first loss handed to Dayton since August 25th, and Fordham's first win over the Flyers since 2017.

The Rams kicked off the scoring quickly in the fifth minute, netting the opening goal on a set piece.  Daniel D'Ippolito played a corner into the box that was settled and finished to the near post by Ede Gramberg for his second goal of the season.

Later in the half, it was another set piece that pushed the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Rams.  Murat Calkap played a long corner to the backside of the box, finding Thomas Gray for his first goal of the year.

Dayton turned the game around right at the start of the second half, blistering shots at the Fordham goal.  The Flyers cut the Fordham lead to 2-1 in the 47th minute on a goal from Joseph Melto Quiah and then tied the game at two in the 64th minute on Geni Kanyane's second goal of the season.

The Rams would not be denied, rallying for two goals in the final 11 minutes for a 4-2 edge.  In the 80th minute, Bennett Leitner poked home a shot in front of the net for his second marker of the year.  Then, D'Ippolito got loose on a breakaway in the 83rd minute, beating two defenders in the box and the keeper to net his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Fordham's Carter Abbott posted five saves in the victory, while Dayton's Dario Caetano had two in the loss.

The Maroon and White are back at home for the team's next match on Saturday, October 19th, as Fordham welcomes George Washington to Moglia Stadium for a 6:00 PM match.
