Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – Fordham University women's basketball battled back with a dominant fourth quarter on the road, but were outlasted 55-44 by Rhode Island Wednesday night.
Emy Hayford would pace the Rams with 23 points, one of two double digit scorers alongside Taylor Donaldson who had 11 points along with five rebounds, helping Fordham to out rebound Rhode Island 42-35 for the game.
Forcing URI into five turnovers in the opening frame, the Rams would take a one point lead, as Hayford drilled three of her first six shots for seven points in the first ten minutes to pace all scorers early on. Despite out hustling the home side on the glass in the first half, Rhode Island managed to pull away as the teams approached halftime, taking an eight point lead at the break.
A dominant run out of the halftime stoppage would see Rhode Island extend its lead early in the second half of play, forcing the Rams to battle back throughout the second half.
Fighting back late, a resilient fourth quarter by the visitors would see Fordham burst out with 20 points, the most by either team in any quarter, drawing within single digits entering the final minutes of the game.
The Rams will have the weekend off, the first of two byes on this year's calendar, before returning home next Wednesday for a meeting with Loyola Chicago at the Rose Hill Gym.
