Women's Basketball Falls to Davidson Sunday

Mandy McGurk and Emy Hayford led the Rams with 10 points apiece

BRONX, N.Y (Jan. 14, 2024) – Returning to the Rose Hill Gym for a single game this weekend,Fordham University women's basketball fell to Davidson 66-48, Sunday afternoon.

Playing on National TV for the first time this season, Fordham was paced by a pair of players with 10 points apiece in Emy Hayford and Mandy McGurk, who went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and collected four steals.

The Rams as a team shot 18 free throws, sinking 15 of them for the best shooting percentage of the season from the charity stripe, while tied for the second most attempts in a game this year. Kailah Harris in her second start of the campaign would tally eight points and a team high six rebounds, while Taylor Donaldson added eight points as well.

After a quiet opening quarter that saw just 18 points scored between the two teams, gave Davidson an early eight point lead, which they would extend in the second quarter, despite a much stronger offensive showing by the Rams as the first half began to wind down.

Five different players would make their way onto the scoresheet, despite not connecting from beyond the arc in the opening half. Fordham forced 10 turnovers by the Wildcats in the first half, including five steals, keeping them in the fight, trailing by 13 at the break.

Out of halftime, the teams would go back and forth, with Davidson outscoring the Rams 9-6 entering the floating media timeout. That pace would continue for both sides through the end of the frame, with Davidson holding a 15 point edge after three quarters of play.

The final frame would go down similar to the first, a low scoring affair despite the two sides exchanging baskets on either end down the stretch, before late points by the visitors gave Davidson the win late in the game.

Fordham women's basketball heads back out on the road Wednesday with a trip to New England for a meeting with Rhode Island at 6:00 p.m.
