BRONX, N.Y. – Before beginning his first campaign with the Rams this fall, rising sophomore
Joshua Rivera will play three games this week with the Puerto Rican National Team in the Bahamas.
Rivera, a Patriot League All-Rookie Team selection last season at Lafayette, will take on three high-major NCAA opponents beginning this afternoon at Atlantis Paradise Island. The Puerto Rican team will face LSU today at 3 p.m. before squaring off against Iowa State on Wednesday followed by Texas A&M on Thursday.
Rivera will begin his Fordham tenure after finishing second on the Leopards in both scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg) as a freshman. He reached double figures in 16 of his 32 appearances with six efforts of 20-plus points. A product of Putnam Science Academy, the New Jersey native closed his freshman season on a high note, averaging 15.1 points and 6.3 boards over his final 15 appearances while shooting 41.3 percent from beyond the arc.
This will not be Rivera's first showing with the Puerto Rican National Team, as he averaged 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during the 2019 U16 Americas Championship in Brazil.
