Washington, D.C. – Fordham softball clinched a spot in this week's 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship, hosted at Bahoshy Field, during a Saturday sweep at George Washington, taking game one, 3-1, and game two, 9-1, in six innings. With the wins, the Rams improve to 19-26 overall and 10-10 in league action, while the Colonials fall to 17-27 and 7-18, respectively.
Bailey Enoch starred with a terrific two-way performance, earning her sixth win of the season and allowing just one unearned run on one hit and two walks, with five strikeouts, in game one and then matching a career-high of five RBIs in game two.
Sydney Wells powered the offense in game one, breaking a 1-1 tie with a two-run double in the fifth inning, her second two-bagger of the afternoon, after
Amanda Carey had opened the scoring an inning earlier with a RBI single through the right side.
Devon Miller's last two starts against George Washington came during last year's A-10 Championship, a shutout in the semifinals and a gritty effort in the do-or-die final contest to clinch the title. She continued her success against the Colonials today with one run allowed over six frames, allowing just five baserunners while striking out four, picking up her sixth victory of the season.
Setting the table for Enoch were
Michaela Carter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI,
Neleh Nogay, who singled and scored thrice, and
Kate McGuire in the nine spot, reaching base safely three times with a single, double, and a walk. Wells and
Julia Martine also drove a teammate in, while
Sarah Taffet singled and scored once.
