Softball Finishes Sweep of George Washington, Solidifies Fifth Seed at This Week's A-10 Championship

Holly Beeman Outduels Rose Cano in Tight 2-1 Victory; Enoch and Martine Drive in the Two Runs

A-10 Championship Central

Washington, D.C. – Fordham softball completed its weekend series sweep at George Washington with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon. The Rams finish the 2023 regular season with a 20-26 overall record, 11-10 in Atlantic 10 action.

Freshman Holly Beeman was locked in a pitcher's duel with Rose Cano for five frames before both teams got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Bailey Enoch and Julia Martine delivered RBI singles in the top-half of the frame to put the visitors up two, but the Colonials put together a two-out rally to halve the deficit, though Beeman escaped a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout looking. Outside of a two-out single by the hosts, the seventh was an uneventful final frame for both sides.

Beeman produced her team-high 11th complete game, striking out four and allowing just seven total baserunners, for her eighth win. Eva Koratsis reached safely three times, singling twice and walking, while Neleh Nogay tallied the other hit on the day for the offense. Her, Martine, and Mary Grace O'Neill each stole a base, as well.

For the weekend, Nogay led the way with six hits, hitting .545, ahead of Bailey Enoch's .444/.545/.556 slash line with a team-high six RBIs. The trio of Beeman, Enoch, and Devon Miller all went the distance in their respective contests with a combined nine hits allowed and 13 strikeouts.

With three wins this weekend, Fordham leapfrogged Rhode Island into the fifth seed at this week's A-10 Championship, hosted by the Rams at Bahoshy Field, and will play fourth-seeded George Mason on Wednesday at noon in the opening contest. The winner will take on regular season champions, Saint Louis, on Thursday at noon.
