Courtney Davidson Named Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Michigan State Alum Joins Head Coach Bridgette Mitchell's Inaugural Coaching Staff

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham women's basketball head coach Bridgette Mitchell has announced today the addition of Courtney Davidson as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for her inaugural 2023-24 campaign.

"Courtney is one of the best and brightest coaches in the country." Coach Mitchell said, "Her personality and ability to create and maintain relationships with anyone that she meets makes her one of the best recruiters in the country. I am thrilled to have her coordinate our recruiting of the top players in the nation."

'Best and brightest' certainly applies to Coach Davidson, a 2016 WBCA "Thirty Under 30" award recipient. Following a stellar playing career at Michigan State, graduating in 2008, Davidson immediately jumped into coaching, working at her alma mater, Ursuline High School in Ohio, for five years and rising to become the program's varsity head coach.

"I am grateful to be joining Coach Mitchell's staff and become a part of the Fordham family." Davidson said of her hire, "Fordham University is a special place. I look forward to continuing to build on the program's past success."

Davidson joined the collegiate coaching ranks in as the Director of Basketball Operations for one year each at Youngstown State, her hometown school, and the College of Charleston before earning a full-time assistant position at Radford in 2015. After a successful two-year stint in Virginia, where her Highlanders won 24 games and the Big South regular season championship in 2017, earning a WNIT postseason berth, Davidson rejoined Youngstown State as an assistant coach, helping the Penguins to a WNIT berth, as well, in 2019. Following that season, Davidson spent two years at the University of Hartford as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and most recently at Loyola Maryland in the same position from 2021-23.

"Courtney was a great player at Michigan State. I am thrilled to have a coach of her caliber join our staff to develop our guards." Mitchell added.

Throughout her coaching career, she has recruited and developed nine All-Conference selections, four All-Rookie honorees, four All-Academic recipients, and one Rookie of the Year. As a guard at Michigan State from 2004-08, Davidson helped the Spartans to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2005-07 (National Runner-Up in 2005, Sweet 16 in 2006, Second Round in 2007) and a WNIT runner-up finish in 2008. Davidson was twice voted by her peers as the team's "Sixth Man of the Year", her sophomore and junior campaigns, and "Most Improved" as a sophomore. All told, Davidson made 101 career appearances for Michigan State with 379 total points, 181 assists, and 41 steals. She graduated with a degree in Communications and later earned her Master's in Counseling at Youngstown State.
