Bronx, N.Y. – It was unexpectedly dreary, blustery, and misty at Bahoshy Field on Wednesday afternoon, but Fordham softball pulled out a 2-1 victory against Hofstra in nonconference action, improving to 12-17 overall, while the Pride fall to 13-20.
Holly Beeman picked up her sixth win of the season and cruised through the first six frames before running into some trouble in the seventh. With two outs and a runner on first, Gianna Iaquinto doubled off the left field wall to cut the deficit to one. Iaquinto would move to third on a passed ball while pinch hitter Olivia Malinowski walked to put runners on the corners. Beeman buckled down and got leadoff hitter Kasey Collins to line out to
Neleh Nogay in the left.
Fordham got to Hofstra starter Nikki Mullin in the fourth inning with three big extra-base hits.
Julia Martine led off with a hard-hit double to right centerfield and scored on
Sarah Taffet's bullet triple to right. Two pitches later and
Kate McGuire drove her in for what would be the game-winning run with a double to shallow right.
Beeman picked up her eighth complete game of the year and allowed just seven baserunners. Prior to the final frame, the freshman had allowed just three hits and a HBP. Taffet also singled in the contest and Nogay provided a pair of singles and stole her eighth base, as well.
The Rams continue Atlantic 10 action this weekend with three games at Rhode Island. The series opener is set for 3 p.m. on Friday on ESPN+, while Saturday's noon doubleheader will be on ESPN3.
