Sydney Wells Ties Career-High with Five RBI

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 30, 2023) – With weather continuing to play havoc with the weekend schedule, the Fordham Rams were able to play once on Sunday morning against the Ramblers of Loyola Chicago, falling by a 10-6 score before rain washed out the remaining contest.

The early morning start saw the Ramblers take a 2-0 lead in the first inning, getting a two-run double by Sydney Barnett.

Loyola Chicago increased its lead to 5-0 in the third, when Haley Wallace hit a three-run home run to left, her first of the year.

Fordham got on the board in the bottom of the third, thanks to the start of a career-day for Sydney Wells.  With one out, Michaela Carter and Neleh Nogay reached base on back-to-back bunt singles, and one out later came home on a two-run triple for Wells.

Wells then powered the Rams into the lead in the bottom of the fifth, going ahead by a 6-5 score.  After Bailey Enoch plated a run with a single just inside the left field line, Wells connected on a three-run home run to right, her team-leading eighth of the season.

However, the lead was short lived, as the Ramblers answered with five runs in the top of the sixth to re-take a 10-6 lead.  Loyola Chicago took advantage of two errors in the inning, picking up RBI-singles by Barnett and Nova Sinskul and a two-run single by Amelia Thomas.

Fordham did get runners on in the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to cut into the deficit, falling by the 10-6 count.

For Fordham, Wells was a double shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run, while tying her career-high with five RBI.  Carter and Nogay were each 2-for-4 with two runs scored with Enoch going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, May 6th, as they travel to George Washington for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader, starting at noon.
