Softball Falls at Stony Brook Wednesday

Seawolves Steal Victory Late, 4-3

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Fordham softball fell, 4-3, in its final nonconference game of the 2023 regular season, at Stony Brook on Wednesday. With the loss, the Rams fall to 17-25 overall, while the Seawolves improve to 20-23.

Just two of starter Holly Beeman's four runs allowed were earned, due in part to the defense's four errors behind her. Stony Brook opened the scoring in the first with a run on a throwing error on a steal attempt at second and again in the fourth on a two-run home run by Brooke Dye. The visitors tied the game up twice, first in the third on a Bailey Enoch two-out infield single, scoring Sarah Taffet, who had led off with a single, and then in the fifth when Enoch smashed a two-run moonshot, also with two outs.

Stony Brook broke the brief deadlock in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Shauna Nuss, pinch-running for Dye, after she reached on an error at third. The hosts committed an error of their own to begin the seventh, putting Taffet on first, with Kate McGuire sacrificing her over to second, but Mia Haynes, in her second inning of relief, was able to escape the jam.

Enoch was the star at the dish for the Rams, finishing 2-for-3 with all three runs batted in. Four other Rams recorded a hit and McGuire and Eva Koratsis each drew a walk. Beeman was saddled with her seventh loss of the season, striking out a pair over her six frames.

Fordham hosts Loyola Chicago this weekend for a three-game series, the Rams' final home contests of the regular season. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale begin at noon and can be seen live on MSG Networks. In addition, ESPN3 will carry coverage on Saturday, ESPN+ on Sunday. The 2023 Senior Day ceremony, honoring Amanda Carey, Michaela Carter, and Devon Miller, will take place between games one and two.
