MBWA Release
New York, N.Y. – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) announced its annual year-end awards on Tuesday morning and Fordham women's basketball was well-represented yet again –
Anna DeWolfe and
Asiah Dingle were both named to the All-Met First Team.
Â
For DeWolfe, this is the third straight year that she's earned the distinction. For Dingle, it's her first Metropolitan honor. It's the first time in program history that the Rams have placed two on the First Team in the same year.
Â
The duo enjoyed tremendous seasons in maroon and white, finishing one and two in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and both named First Team All-Atlantic 10, the second Ram duo to accomplish the feat. Dingle took a step forward from her senior campaign, breaking the program's longstanding single-season steals record, 100 by Mary Hayes in 1978, with 111 for the year, leading to her garnering Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors from the conference. That total tally was fourth in all of Division I, while her per-game average of 3.5 was third. She finished the year as Division I's active career leader in steals by a whopping 25, with 337. During the season, she had 18 games of four or more steals and at least two in all but five, including a single-game school record of 10 against Saint Peter's in November.
Â
She led the league in scoring, as well, with 19.2 points per game, establishing herself as the A-10's preeminent two-way threat. The Boston native scored her 2,000
th career point in the regular season finale victory at Davidson and her 1,000
th point at Fordham in the A-10 quarterfinals against Richmond, the 26
th Ram to reach the milestone. Her 615 points on the year ranks seventh all-time, her 238 field goals sixth, while she finished her two-year stint in the Bronx with 177 thefts, ranked sixth all-time, now, by far, the program's all-time per-game leader at 2.9.
Â
DeWolfe had another stellar season, averaging 18.4 points on 41.5% shooting overall, 35.4% from deep, and 85.5% from the line. Her 231 field goals were seventh-most in a single campaign, her 79 threes third-most. The Cumberland, Maine native scored in double figures in all but two contests with 13 games of 20 or more and a near-career-high 33 against Massachusetts in mid-January. DeWolfe ascended up the all-time ranks to second in three-pointers (238), third in points (1,883), third in field goals (739), and fourth in minutes played (4,091), after making 111 consecutive starts since arriving at Fordham. She's just the second Ram to earn three First Team All-Conference honors, joining Sharon Nast in the MAAC from 1984-86, and the first to be named to three All-Met First Teams.
