Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham softball capped off a series sweep of Massachusetts with a 10-2 six-inning victory on Sunday. With the win, the Rams improve to 17-24 overall and 8-9 in league play, while the Minutewomen fall to 14-27 and 5-12, respectively.
Fordham threatened to surpass the run rule within the first two innings, plating seven runs against the duo of Julianne Bolton and Jenna Bradley via a
Bailey Enoch sacrifice fly and two second-inning home runs, a two-run shot by
Amanda Carey and a grand slam off the bat of
Sydney Wells. After the Minutewomen scored two in the fifth, Fordham walked off the following inning after a passed ball and a two-run single by Enoch.
The game's first run was unearned,
Michaela Carter scoring on Enoch's sac fly after advancing from first to third when
Neleh Nogay's sac bunt attempt was mishandled by Abby Packard at first base. Nogay nearly scored from second on
Julia Martine's single to left but Jules Shields threw her out at home.
The second inning began brightly as
Eva Koratsis worked a full count and singled to center then scored on Carey's scorched homer to straightaway center, her fourth of the season. Bradley came on in relief of Bolton and induced line outs out of
Kate McGuire and Enoch but three straight singles sandwiched between. With two outs and the bases juiced, Wells rocketed a 2-2 pitch into the tennis court fence in left center, a no-doubter for her seventh jack of the year.
The Rams threatened in the fourth with runners on second and third and two outs following a passed ball, but Bradley's wild pitch caromed just right for Olivia Packard to tag
Mallory McClellan, who was pinch-running and earlier stole second, out at home plate to escape the jam. UMass' two runs in the fifth came on a throwing error at second with runners on second and third.
Fordham's sixth-inning rally came mostly with two outs. McGuire worked a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch with two outs.
Michaela Carter walked and Nogay singled to left to load the bases. McGuire scored on a passed ball then Enoch dropped a single into left center to end the game.
For the third time this weekend, Nogay went 2-for-3, this time also scoring twice and stealing her 11
th base. Carter reached safely three times, singling and walking twice, and scored thrice. Enoch drove in three, Wells four, and Carey two. Seven different Rams scored and eight recorded a hit.
Devon Miller went the distance, striking out three over six frames, with one of her two runs allowed being unearned.
Fordham next travels to Stony Brook on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Loyola Chicago for the last games of the regular season at Bahoshy Field.
